The PADI Advanced Open Water Diver course is the next step in your scuba diving education after completing the Open Water Diver certification. It allows you to expand your diving skills, gain more experience, and explore different types of diving under the guidance of a certified PADI instructor. Here's what you can expect from the PADI Advanced Open Water course:

  1. Course Structure: The PADI Advanced Open Water course consists of 5 Adventure Dives, which are specialized dives in specific areas of interest. These dives include both knowledge development and practical application of skills. There is no exam like in the PADI open water course. The course typically takes 2-3 days to complete, depending on the schedule and pace of the course.
  2. Adventure Dive Options: The course offers a range of Adventure Dive options, allowing you to tailor your training to your interests and diving goals. The Deep dive and Navigation Dive are mandatory. The other 3 Adventure dives you can choose but the possibility depends on the dive site and schedule. Some common Adventure Dives you can choose include, Night Diving, Peak Performance Buoyancy, Wreck Diving, Drift Diving, Enriched Air and Underwater Photography, among others. You'll choose the 3 additional Adventure Dives in consultation with your instructor.
  3. Knowledge Development: Before each Adventure Dive, you'll learn the relevant dive theory and techniques through self-study using the PADI Adventures in Diving manual or e-learning materials. You'll review this knowledge with your instructor to ensure a comprehensive understanding of the dive.
  4. Practical Application: During the Adventure Dives, you'll apply the skills and knowledge learned in a real diving environment. Under the guidance of your instructor, you'll practice specific skills and gain hands-on experience in the chosen dive specialty. The dives will provide opportunities to explore different underwater environments and encounter unique marine life.
  5. Certification: Upon successful completion of the five Adventure Dives, you'll be awarded the PADI Advanced Open Water Diver certification. This certification allows you to dive to a maximum depth of 30 meters (100 feet) and further expand your diving experiences and knowledge.
  6. Continuing Education: The Advanced Open Water certification opens doors to further diving education and specialization. You'll review this knowledge with your instructor through classroom sessions or online discussions.
  3. Confined Water Sessions: In confined water sessions, usually conducted in a pool or calm shallow water, you'll practice and develop rescue skills under the guidance of a certified PADI instructor. These sessions involve simulated rescue scenarios, allowing you to apply the knowledge you've learned in realistic situations.
