Diving in Nusa Dua, located on the southeastern coast of Bali, offers a range of dive sites suitable for both beginners and experienced divers. While Nusa Dua is more well-known for its luxurious resorts and white sandy beaches, there are diving opportunities available in the area. Here's some information about diving in Nusa Dua:
- Dive Site Features: Nusa Dua offers a mix of coral reefs, walls, and gentle slopes for divers to explore. The dive sites in Nusa Dua are generally shallower compared to other areas in Bali, making them suitable for beginners and those looking for more relaxed dives. The coral formations are diverse, and you can expect to see a variety of hard and soft corals, sponges, and sea fans.
- Batu besar: Batu besar means big rock in Indonesian language. Around this ‘big rock’ is a beautiful coral garden with impressive colours and big variety of fish. Also, it’s a perfect spot to find Macro like Nudibranch, Ghost pipefish, Seahorse and more. The Dugong, Turtle, Marble ray and even Manta are frequently seen around here.
- Shipwreck: There is a beautiful unnamed secret shipwreck in Nusa dua that we as ‘SEA Diving Bali’ discovered a couple of years ago. This fishing vessel has a tropical/Caribbean vibe because of the white sandy bottom and blue water conditions. Most of the time there is a group of batfish and big pufferfish circling around the wreck. And almost guaranteed big whitetip reef sharks underneath the wreck. IT’S AN ABSOLUTE MUST SEE!!
- Statue garden: This is a garden with at least 10 Balinese statues. These statues are giving shelter to many small reef fish and other marine life like sea snakes and blue spotted stingray.
- Seawalker reef: This dive site is made for sea walking but is perfect for beginning divers. It’s not deeper than 5 meters and because of the metal rails perfect to hold yourself when your buoyancy is not optimal yet. Here you can guarantee meet Nemo and his friends. Perfect dive site for children and not such confident divers.
- Marine Life: While not as abundant as some other dive sites in Bali, Nusa Dua still offers opportunities to encounter marine life such as reef fish, turtles, small rays, and frequently sightings of reef sharks, turtles, and big rays. The marine life in Nusa Dua is diverse, but the numbers and variety may not be as extensive as in other popular diving areas of Bali. Also, you have a fair chance of spotting the Dugong (Sea cow) in Nusa dua waters.
- Diving Conditions: The diving conditions in Nusa Dua are generally suitable for divers of all levels. Visibility can vary but is often around 10 to 20 meters (30 to 65 feet). Water temperatures average around 27-29°C (81-84°F). The currents are typically mild, providing a comfortable diving experience but can also be quite rough depending on tides and the moon.
It's important to note that while Nusa Dua offers diving opportunities, the marine life and dive sites may not be as well-known or as abundant as in other areas of Bali such as Nusa Penida or Tulamben. If you're seeking more diverse and spectacular diving experiences, exploring other areas of Bali might be recommended. Nonetheless, diving in Nusa Dua can still offer a pleasant and enjoyable underwater experience for those looking to combine leisure with diving during their stay in the area.
